RAD Classical Ballet Examinations
The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) is one of the world’s most well known and influential dance education and training organisations. It was founded in 1920 to re-invigorate dance teaching within the UK and today the RAD has a presence in 85 countries, with 36 offices and about 14,000 members worldwide. From Pri-Primary to Advanced 2 each examination expands the knowledge of the dancer and develops an artist.
RAD candidates who have achieved a pass or higher in Grades 6, 7, 8, Intermediate and Advanced Foundation, can use their RAD exam result towards their points tariff when applying to university or higher education in the UK.
Sarah Mortimer is a registered teacher with the Royal Academy of Dance and therefore can enter students for all RAD examinations and class awards.
The RAD’s patron is Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

ISTD Tap & Modern Examinations
Since 1904 the Imperial Society of Dance have provided training for dance teachers and examiners, enabling teachers to enter their students for examinations, develop new techniques and spread the joy of dance. The clearly defined structure allows learning to take place in the context of safe dance practice. The examination structure of the ISTD is designed to cater equally for those who wish to progress to making dance their profession, either as a performer or dance teacher, and for those pursuing dance purely as a leisure activity.
Graded examinations aim to build up progressively, ensuring that steps and skills learned at lower levels prepare for more complex movements as the candidate progresses. The Vocational Grades are accredited by Ofqual and include Intermediate Foundation, Intermediate, Advanced 1 and Advanced 2. These examinations form a cohesive bridge between grade work and professional examinations to provide the basis for either a career as a dancer, or further training as a dance teacher.

Parents will be advised when their child’ class teacher assesses that their child is ready to take an exam. Tenterden Studios reserve the right to decide when to enter a child in examinations as all children develop at different times. Tenterden Ballet Studios have a successful 100% pass rate.
